Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of metalcore/deathcore/hardcore, etc. whatever it’s called nowadays. The only bands in that genre I really like are the ones that aim for to be a little more unique than the other bands in this endless flood of artists. For example, the incredibly technical August Burns Red, or the wildly experimental and fun Between The Buried and Me.

What makes As Blood Runs Black such a great band is that they push themselves! They don’t just want to make “another album” and they don’t want to “just get by” as another band. Within the first 20 seconds of this CD, I knew these guys were out to be more than just mediocre. These guys are proving that they’re out for great things.

All the songs have great, intense, metal riffs, and just about all of these riffs are pretty complex and quite intricate. In fact, there are times on this album where ABRB remind me of Children of Bodom, and that’s a good thing, because Children of Bodom are one of my favorite metal bands. The breakdowns are also great because they are off-time and technical, much like the breakdowns of August Burns Red. The screaming vocals are also quite passionate and the vocalist is definitely suitable for a band of this energy and intensity. And finally, the drumming. OH SNAP! Lech is by far one of the most intense drummers of extreme metal. He just pushes himself so far that it’s astounding. He’s definitely a great drummer and is a vital part in obtaining As Blood Runs Black’s sound.

This is one of those albums that you can listen to all the way through and love every second of. From the fiery headbangers of “In Dying Days”, “Hester Prynne” and “My Fears Have Become Phobias” to the amazingly beautiful guitar-and-bass instrumental “Pouring Reign”, this album is great. I can’t wait for As Blood Runs Black to come out with a new album, because when such talented and inspired musicians as themselves really put the effort into the music, it comes out great. And this album goes to show it! Thanks for the time, and peace.

I have heard just about every genre of Metal out there. I’m a big Acacia Strain fan, so when I happened upon this awesome disc, I was blown away. I’m picky about most music, and these guys know what the hell they’re doing.

Greatly paced music with crushing breakdowns. I know this genre is getting alot of flack because there are way to many bands doing it, but ABRB is one of the best at it.

I will say this, because as the recession takes it’s toll on many business’s, I hope that Mediaskare records is still around for these guys’ sake. I would hate to learn the aweful news about them breaking up because they couldn’t get a label to sign them. It’s been a few years now since this release. I also heard they recorded material over a year ago, but where is it? I would only hope that Metal blade would scoop up this act. If not, maybe school was an option?

Anyways, buy this release, you will be absolutely floored!

The title for my review says it all. Being in my late 20′s (and a big fan of death metal old and new and black metal etc.), I had to let metalcore grow on me before I began to like it.

That whole process could have been sped up had I heard this band before a week ago. As Blood Runs Black, after only listening to this album for three days, already became my favorite metalcore band. Somehow they manage to grind out breakdown after breakdown without it getting old (a lot of songs even have multiple breakdowns).

Vocals are absolutely perfect for the music. Intense; not too low, not too high, but still varies enough to keep things interesting.

This is music to kill people to. This is music to destroy random objects at your place of work (which I have done) to! GIVE ME MORE!!! I want another album from my FAVORITE metalcore band!!!

If you like metalcore, BUY THIS!

If you love metal but haven’t gotten into metalcore, THIS IS THE ALBUM THAT WILL GET YOU INTO IT!

I haven’t heard breakdowns this good since Chimaira’s Impossibility of Reason album.

BUY THIS BUY THIS BUY THIS!

I ordered this cd about a month ago and I never recieved it.

Don’t ever order from this user. You are better off paying normal price on amazon at least you will recieve your order ahead of time

  5. CRV says:

If you want to hear hardcore modern metal to the extreme with pulverizing riffs, breakdowns, brutal vocals, then you found it here.. Pure brutality with a catchy rythemic twist. I would also recommend checking out All Shall Perish.
